The Axys method

In addition to the traditional triptych of quality / costs / deadlines, the notion of value is crucial in project management, as it enables actions to be prioritised according to their impact on the company’s strategic objectives. By focusing on projects that deliver the most value, teams can optimise resource allocation and maximise return on investment.

We propose a value-based project management approach structured in 3 stages:

  1. Define what ‘value’ is in your business/project context (business value, technological value, CSR value, etc.).
  2. Implement the valuetrade-off process (between projects but also at the macro-functional level of each project).
  3. Defining and then industrialising the calculation of value management indicators (e.g. % OKR achievement, % use of delivered functionalities, % user satisfaction, etc.).

Because a transformation project cannot be carried out without the company’s employees, the definition of common and shared objectives within the project team is essential to federate and mobilise. Because transformation projects are complex and there is a strong commitment to success, project contributors need to be involved from the upstream project scoping phase.

Project management in a more collaborative mode makes for greater efficiency, for example by promoting decision-making by contributors who know their area of expertise. Backed up by agile methods, it enables value to be co-constructed while encouraging teams’ capacity for innovation.

The use of visual management tools facilitates the implementation of collaborative project management. These easy-to-use tools enable teams to work together on a wide range of issues: brainstorming, running agile ceremonies or design thinking workshops.

Choosing the project management methodology best suited to the context of each project is essential to maximising the achievement of objectives. Whether it’s the agile method, for its flexibility and adaptability, or the waterfall method (‘V’ method), for its structured and sequential approach, each project must use a relevant project methodology. We recommend analysing various criteria to select the most appropriate methodology for your projects in a pragmatic and effective way, such as: the company’s culture and history, the existing methodological skills of project contributors, the very nature of the project (business, technological or organisational transformation, etc.) or the deadline objectives.
